Kiawah/Seabrook Dolphin Education Program’s COVID Modifications

Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network

May 5, 2020

In light of the recent and ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, LMMN has made modifications to the existing protocol for volunteers. These will be updated as new information and data changes.

    • Volunteers will participate at their own comfort level.
    • Monthly shift requirements will be waived, and volunteers can commit to how many shifts they feel able to do (2 shifts/month is still encouraged to fill most days).
    • Until May 22nd, signs will not be posted at the spit to reduce the public approaching volunteers with questions.
    • Starting May 22nd and beyond, signs will be posted as normal.
    • Until further notice, volunteers will not be required to approach the public, unless there is a clear safety or interaction issue with the dolphins, while maintaining at least a 6-foot radius to all people.
    • If they do not feel comfortable approaching the public and there is a safety or interaction concern, they can call Beach Patrol.
    • Social distancing will be encouraged with all members of the public.
    • Cleaning supplies will be provided in the shared box to clean shared items such as signs, clipboard and chairs after your shift.
    • Masks/gloves will be optional.
